A Fuller Face - Should You Get Dermal Filler?

Dermal Fillers

One of the most popular non-surgical treatments patients seek for facial rejuvenation is dermal fillers.

The newest and most common types of dermal fillers used by providers consists of injectable hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps retain moisture and structure within skin cells, keeping skin hydrated and plump. As a result, hyaluronic acid injectables are used to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial features.

Common Dermal Filler Injection Areas Include:

  • Lips: To add volume, definition, or correct asymmetry.

  • Cheeks: To restore youthful fullnes.

  • Nasolabial folds: To soften deep lines running from the nose to the mouth.

  • Marionette lines: To reduce the downward lines from the mouth to the chin.

  • Jawline and chin: To enhance definition and balance facial proportions.

What you need to know about HA Dermal Fillers

These injectables are biocompatible, which means your body gradually absorbs the product over time. Hyaluronic injectables typically last 6 to 18 months, depending on the product used and the area treated. One of the key benefits of HA fillers is that they are reversible, offering both safety and flexibility for patients.

Treatments are minimally invasive, however there is always a risk for bruising and swelling. After receiving hyaluronic acid injections, the filler attracts and binds to water. Over the next several days after injection, the filler continues to hydrate and integrate with the surrounding tissue gradually smoothing out.

Your skin and surrounding structures need time to adjust to the added volume. As a result, the filler may shift slightly and take about two weeks to fully “settle.”

All patients have their own unique anatomy, and not all filler treatments are built the same. Always consult with a qualified professional to determine the best treatment plan for your unique facial anatomy and goals.
