Two New Products for Rough Dry Skin

by Dr. Stephanie Cotell

Who doesn’t love the feel of smooth polished skin? Especially with summer around the corner! What are some foolproof ways to smooth out dry, rough or bumpy skin on our bodies? And what about our thick scaling dry feet after a long winter?

Let me share my two favorite products with you, which can deliver these results. I also made a brief video about these that you’ll find on the Northeast Dermatology Facebook page.

The Answer for Rough Dry Skin and Keratosis Pilaris

Glytone Exfoliating Body Lotion contains glycolic acid to dissolve flaking scaling skin and relieve itching and revive the appearance of very dry skin. It’s distinct from a typical moisturizer in that it has the ability to truly exfoliate and leave skin feeling polished after regular use. This is also a great product to use before applying a self-tanner in order to avoid streaking and achieve an even tan appearance. Be sure NOT to apply this lotion right after shaving your legs, as it can cause temporary stinging due to the glycolic acid! A little of this product goes a long way. Finally, don’t overdo it. If you have sensitive skin, it may require a less frequent application to avoid stinging.

This lotion is also fantastic for treating keratosis pilaris, a genetic condition resulting in rough tiny bumps on the arms. It’s the product that has worked most successfully and consistently for my patients. Daily use over two months will plane down these bumps and make arms look and feel smooth. Once improved, you can use the lotion periodically for maintenance.

Banish Rough, Scaly Feet

What about feet? Our feet may develop calluses or dry skin from lack of moisturizing, friction from shoes or surfaces, advancing age, and hygiene. Glytone Heel and Elbow Cream is a remarkably effective and rapid-acting cream to restore your feet to baby smooth. This cream also only requires a small amount of use to see results quickly, but is a much stronger product than the Glytone Body Lotion I mentioned above, since the bottoms of our feet have much thicker skin and can tolerate stronger formulations without stinging or burning. Apply overnight for heels, but only for 20 minutes (and then wash off!) if you are using it on your elbows. You’ll be excited to show off your newly smooth feet in your summer sandals and flip-flops!
