What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a digital means for your physician to provide clinical services without an in-person visit. It takes place over online video and audio connection. Telemedicine is frequently used for follow-up visits, management of chronic conditions, medication management, and specialist consultation.

While it is a great option for many, it’s important to remember that telemedicine, by its nature, has inherent limitations. In the vast majority of cases, it is a safe and accurate alternative to an in person visit. That being said, it is inevitable that not all medical problems can be confidently diagnosed and treated without an actual clinic visit. We cannot guarantee that a telemedicine visit will not end with a recommendation for a follow up clinic visit. Patient safety is not an area we are willing to compromise. We also require that telemedicine visits be limited to 1-2 problems.

What should I do prior to my telemedicine appointment?

1. Update your personal health information and preferred pharmacy in the patient portal

Go to https://northeastskin.ema.md. Click on “patient login” and use your email address to log on. If you have problems logging on or need your password reset, please call 614-473-9519.

You will receive a separate email from Docusign with important healthcare documents including HIPPA privacy consent and our Financial Policy. These forms MUST be signed before your telemedicine appointment.

2. Docusign important healthcare documents

What else do I need to know?

Instructions on day of visit

Confirm that you have updated information in the patient portal and completed docusign documents as described above.

You may enter the chat room 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to make sure your device and browser are compatible. We also ask that you have a flashlight available if needed for better visibility.

There may be a small wait, so remain in the waiting room until your visit is accepted by your provider. If you experience technical difficulties during your visit, please be patient; we will do our best to get this corrected as soon as possible. Please contact the office at 614-473-9519 should problems arise.

Financial policy

Thank you for choosing us as your healthcare provider. We are committed to providing quality medical care. Please understand that payment of your bill is considered part of your care plan.

We will verify your insurance coverage and take any related copayments prior to your telemedicine visit. It is the patient’s responsibility to supply all current insurance cards and identification.

As a courtesy to our patients, we will submit all claims to your primary and secondary insurance carriers in a timely manner. Insurance plans vary considerably, and we cannot predict or guarantee what part of our services will or will not be covered by your plan. Patients are responsible for knowing the details/rules of their health plan(s), as we cannot change our coding to obtain payment. Telemedicine visits are subject to copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.

At Northeast Dermatology, your health is paramount. We will continue to closely monitor recommendations from the CDC, The Ohio State Health Department, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the Ohio Dermatological Association to ensure you are receiving the most up-to-date information and care. Thank-you for your continued confidence during these difficult times and we look forward to seeing you at your appointment.

How to Schedule

Telemedicine appointments can be made in the same way as normal appointments, simply call us at 614-473-9519. After your appointment is made, you’ll receive an email with details and instructions for your telemedicine visit.

To the patients of our sister facility, SKIN Dermatology and Aesthetics, the office has been closed temporarily due to the crisis but the teledermatology option or an in person visit at Northeast Dermatology is still available to you as well.

At your scheduled appointment time, you can use a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a webcam to communicate one-on-one with your physician, just like an in-person visit.

We utilize doxy.me, a HIPAA compliant, secure telemedicine website. The audiovisual visit uses a camera on your device to record your visit; you must have access to high-speed internet and a compatible browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).

Acceptable devices include a desktop or laptop computer with a camera and microphone, a smart phone, or a tablet. The doctor will also have a live camera during the visit. Additionally, there is a chat room where you can type if the audio is malfunctioning.

For more information and an instructional video you can visit the doxy.me website or print a copy of this easy step by step flyer. Specific links to your practitioner’s online video and virtual waiting room are provided below.
