Minimal Incision Facelift

COSMETIC DERMATOLOGY

Signs of aging begin to become apparent on our face and neck as early as our late 30’s to early 40’s. Because our skin loses elasticity as we age and from the cumulative effects of sun exposure, we may develop loose or unsightly folds of skin and wrinkles around the neck and jawline as well as under the chin. These changes make us look older and less attractive.

The minimal incision facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is an innovative procedure that corrects the excessive effects of aging and helps to restore a more youthful appearance. A facelift helps to remove the wrinkled and sagging skin, as well as some of the fatty tissue, associated with the aging process and excessive sun exposure. During this procedure, your facial skin and underlying superficial muscles are lifted and tightened, and your physician removes any loose, excess skin. The minimal incision facelift can give a more rested and youthful appearance to the face. The rhytidectomy is often combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as liposuction (of the chin, neck, and jowls), blepharoplasty (eyelift surgery), Tru-PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), botulinum toxins, fillers, or CO2 laser resurfacing to help patients look and feel years younger.

Signs That You May Be a Candidate

One method to check if you are beginning to develop a drooping jawline or jowl formation is to hold a mirror in your hand and look down. The early signs of drooping can often start to be appreciated between the ages of 35-45. For early intervention in the facial aging process, the minimal incision facelift is ideal. Performed through small incisions around the ear and combined with liposuction of the neck and jowl through nick incisions, downtime is minimized. The procedure is very similar, but not as invasive, as the full facelift. It is designed to improve the chin-neck angle and help restore the definition of the jawline, features associated with a more youthful appearing face.

The best time to perform this surgery, as well as the expected results, differ from individual to individual depending on age, skin type, and underlying bone structure and support. Hormonal, hereditary, and environmental factors also have an impact. You may wish to discuss any concerns you have for potential side effects with your doctor prior to receiving treatment.
